TopMarks (topmarks.com.ng) is an online exam preparation platform for Nigerian students. We help students prepare for WAEC and JAMB examinations through exam-standard practice questions and step-by-step explanations.

2. Information We Collect

When you use TopMarks, we may collect the following:

  • Account information — your name, email address, school, state and class level, provided when you sign up.
  • Usage data — which questions you answered, your scores, and how you interact with the platform.
  • Payment information — if you subscribe to a premium plan, payment is processed by Paystack. We do not store your card details.
  • Device and log data — your IP address, browser type, operating system and pages visited, collected automatically when you use the site.
  • Cookies — small files stored on your device to keep you logged in and remember your preferences.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account.
  • Track your progress and show you personalised study recommendations.
  • Process subscription payments.
  • Display advertisements to free-tier users (via Google AdSense).
  • Improve the platform through usage analytics (via Google Analytics).
  • Send you important account notices (we do not send marketing emails without your consent).
  • Comply with applicable Nigerian laws and regulations.

4. Advertising

Free-tier users will see advertisements displayed by Google AdSense. Google may use cookies to show you relevant ads based on your interests. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ad Settings. Premium subscribers see no advertisements.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:

  • Supabase — our database and authentication provider.
  • Paystack — our payment processor, for premium subscribers.
  • Google — for analytics and (for free users) advertising.
  • Vercel — our website hosting provider.

We may also disclose data if required by Nigerian law or a valid court order.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (for example, payment records).

7. Your Rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate data.
  • Request deletion of your data.
  • Withdraw consent at any time.
  • Lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).

8. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure authentication, and row-level security on our database. No system is 100% secure, but we take every reasonable step to protect your information.

9. Children

TopMarks is intended for students aged 13 and above. If you are under 13, please ask a parent or guardian before creating an account. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of TopMarks after changes means you accept the updated policy.
