1. Who We Are

TopMarks (topmarks.com.ng) is an online exam preparation platform for Nigerian students. We help students prepare for WAEC, NECO and JAMB examinations through exam-standard practice questions and step-by-step explanations.

2. Information We Collect

When you use TopMarks, we may collect the following:

  • Account information — your name, email address, school, state and class level, provided when you sign up.
  • Usage data — which questions you answered, your scores, and how you interact with the platform.
  • Payment information — if you subscribe to a premium plan, payment is processed by Paystack. We do not store your card details.
  • Device and log data — your IP address, browser type, operating system and pages visited, collected automatically when you use the site.
  • Cookies — small files stored on your device to keep you logged in and remember your preferences.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account.
  • Track your progress and show you personalised study recommendations.
  • Process subscription payments.
  • Improve the platform through usage analytics (via Google Analytics).
  • Send you important account notices (we do not send marketing emails without your consent).
  • Comply with applicable Nigerian laws and regulations.

4. Advertising

We do not show advertisements, on any tier. No advertising or tracking script from any advertising company runs on this site, and no advertising cookie is placed on your device. Memberships are what pay for the platform.

If you buy a membership, we tell Meta and TikTok that a purchase happened, so we can measure which adverts brought students to us. That report contains the amount, the plan name and a scrambled (one-way hashed) form of your email address — never your name, and never anything about the subjects you study, the questions you answer or the scores you get. Students who do not buy a membership are never mentioned to either company. We will tell registered users by email before any of this changes.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:

  • Supabase — our database and authentication provider.
  • Paystack — our payment processor, for premium subscribers.
  • Google — for usage analytics only. Not for advertising; see §4.
  • Vercel — our website hosting provider.
  • Meta and TikTok — only if you buy a membership, and only that a purchase happened, with your email scrambled. Never for free users, and never your study data; see §4.

We may also disclose data if required by Nigerian law or a valid court order.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (for example, payment records).

7. Your Rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate data.
  • Request deletion of your data.
  • Withdraw consent at any time.
  • Lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).

8. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure authentication, and row-level security on our database. No system is 100% secure, but we take every reasonable step to protect your information.

9. Children

TopMarks is for students aged 13 and above. Accounts are not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email info@topmarks.com.ng and we will delete the account and its data.

If you are 13 to 17, we ask that you have a parent or guardian’s permission before you create an account or make any payment.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of TopMarks after changes means you accept the updated policy.
